Originally, I wanted to choose another song first to explain Bitcoin to you in this way, which was the origin of this idea. But due to current events, I decided to use the song „Vitory“ by the Ukrainian band „Okean Elzy“ first. I choose this song because it was recommended to me by a friend from Belarus when I asked for it. I asked him to recommend me a Ukrainian band whose lyrics can be understood by Russians, Ukrainians and Belarusians alike and can be connected with #Bitcoin. Since I, of course, speak neither Russian nor Ukrainian, he translated the lyrics for me (see at the end of the post).
This song fits like a glove not only because of the current situation to be the first song at #Sounds4SoundMoney and #MySong4Bitcoin to explain what Bitcoin is all about or can be for you, for all of us. The song is not representative of Bitcoin (Bitcoin needs no representatives) but it is representative of the fact that both music and Bitcoin know no boundaries. Both have many things in common. They transport and carry information and don’t care about borders. They are independent and free, and messages can be distributed openly or covertly across the entire globe. But the message in the song „Victory“ is anything but hidden. „Stand up, go your way and don’t let anyone tell you what to do!“
This message can be applied to Bitcoin without any ifs or buts. Bitcoin is here to stay. No matter how hard the oppressive powers fight it from all sides. Bitcoin doesn’t care what states and corporations think of it and it won’t let anyone sway it from its path. And just like Bitcoin, no one can demand that you think, feel and live the way they tell you to. It is your right to stand up for your wishes, to fight for your dreams. Even though Bitcoin is being fought from all sides, it will win in the end and our ideas, dreams and desires can prevail.
One line of the song translates as „Who would lend you gold so you can stay independent?“ Nobody needs gold for that, because we have Bitcoin. Bitcoin is there for everyone and especially for those who need it most. Unlike gold, Bitcoin can be transferred within a few seconds across all borders directly and without a checkpoint to wherever you want it.
